The Project’s Eco-Critical Pith
By investigating the rich tapestry of our cultural history, particularly regarding the history of arborescence, we can uncover the foundational frameworks that have, on both a generational and international scale, guided us into the 21st century. Given the iconographic gravity of arborescence across space and time, identifying these frameworks is the first step in understanding humanity’s relational rhythms with other species—trees among them. By heeding their experiences, we can illuminate a path forward—a path where we come to understand why we view the environment in a certain manner and, with hope, can begin to construct a new framework that allows for new sustainable practices to intertwine with our modern aspirations.
